A Letter to Bennett - From his Yia-Yia

It only happens once, the birth of the very first grandchild!

It's said that children are your investment, but grandchildren are the dividend. How true that is!

This is for my sweet little Bennett (as you are about to turn one)

I remember vividly that day your mommy told me I was going to be a grandma. It was so exciting to hear those words, surprising and exciting at the same time.

Then the countdown began, waiting for your arrival all through the summer and fall, and into the winter. You had already filled a little place in my heart made just for you, the first grandchild. After the ultrasound that confirmed "BOY", I thought...."a boy, I don't know what to do with a boy!" My only experience was with 2 girls of my own.

Then a year ago, on Jan 26th, I got that call in the middle of the night "Mom, I'm in the hospital in labor". I couldn't get out of my bed FAST enough!! My baby was having a baby!!

From that day on, my life changed.

It was like seeing your Mommy all over again as a baby, you look so much like her! I fell totally in love with you right there on the spot!

And each stage that you've gone through has been so much fun. Just when I think you can't get any cuter, you do.

You are not only are the cutest little baby, but have such a fun personality. I can see a lot of your Mommy in your personality as well as your looks.

I love your big beautiful blue eyes, cute little nose, and sweet pouty lips.

And that laugh, I love that laugh with the big scream and squeal when you get really excited!

I love how you already know how to "look all innocent" when you're doing something you shouldn't be.

I love watching you learn new things every day and explore the world around you.

I love seeing you splash around and have fun in the tub.

I love having you fall asleep in my arms.

I love having the memories of raising my own children come back to me as I look at you from day to day.

But most of all, I love that you are my daughter's baby, and she is getting to experience all the same joys that I did of becoming a new mother.

I love seeing her becoming so confident and comfortable in her child rearing skills.

You are a blessing to cherish and protect, and a new and wonderful part of our family. My greatest wish for you Bennett, is that each day, you experience things that will bring you happiness and joy.

With all my love,

your Yia Yia
