love, security, and discipline

There are so many contradictory articles, trends, and traditions that people follow when they are parenting. As parents, and especially new parents, I think we constantly second guess ourselves. I've mentioned before that I'm earning to trust my maternal instinct. And I'm getting better about just going with my gut.

But honestly, I've found to be most successful when I bring it down to the basics. Stop over-analyzing things and making it more complicated than it is. "love, security, and discipline."  -- I love that! Those words truly embody everything that I am trying to do in my quest to raise my beautiful boy to become a thoughtful, faithful, loving young man!

{just something i've been thinking about lately}

This is a beautiful picture. I absolutely love the Osh-Kosh "engineer" overalls. Every little boy needs a pair. I am visiting from Sweet Shot Tuesday.

Isn't parenting becoming so challenging? It surprised me to discover that at a year old, I already needed to be disciplining Krew. All of a sudden I went into panic mode and emailed my church for book suggestions because I had no idea what advice to follow, haha.

But you are right, those three basics pretty much sum it up. Unfortunately I think many parents today forget about the third one...discpline. :)

gosh your pictures are always amazing... and yes! SO TRUE! Love, security, discipline! Funny how our culture's ways of HOW BEST to train a child aren't exactly the ways other cultures do it... ;0)

This is something I think about a lot too. It is so easy to get caught up in all the things we are "suppose" to do. I am learning to do what feels right and works for us. not everyone else :)

Great advice. That's why I'm scared to be a parent. I way over analyze. They'd be the most protected child in the world.

Hi Mandy,

This is my first visit to your blog. I especially love this post and the quote from Jackie Kennedy. We can get so bogged down in all the rules and expectations and it's nice to step back and realize that all we have to do is love 'em :)
