Dear Target, a bitter sweet goodbye.

Dear Target,

We have had a long and wonderful relationship over the years. And actually, I will admit it, I'm kind of obsessed with you! Circo, Mossimo, those are brands I have really come to love. My closet, and my sons have become infested with clothes from your store! I'm sad though, to tell you that you have failed me. I have recently moved out to Maple Valley, WA and to my dismay, there is no Target to be found anywhere within a reasonable proximity to my new location. Total bummer.

Well I am here to tell you that I have found your replacement. Walmart. Yes, I said Walmart. Now I know that a lot of people are skeptical of that place (me included) because it's "ghetto" and the people that shop there are somewhat "cheap". But let's just be real, who doesn't want basically the same products for cheaper? *raises hand* I know I do!! There is a Walmart only a few short miles from my house, and I will be honest, the first time I shopped there - I felt a little like I was betraying you. But Target, gosh darn it, I saved money. Even with my trusty Target card, where I would save 5% every time I use the card, Walmart is still less expensive. So, Walmart for the win. I'm sorry. It just isn't worth the drive to come and shop at your store.

So with that, I am thankful for all of the countless hours that you were there for me when I needed a warm place to wander with my son. Unfortunately, it's time to part ways. No thanks to you. But, should you ever decide to open a location closer to me, I might consider coming back to you. In the meantime, all we have is this bitter sweet goodbye. Good times Target, good times.

I don't shop at wal-mart unless they have something there that all the other stores doesnt have. there is just too much "nonsense" there for me. just google walmart and how they treat employees. or you should watch documentaries such as "capitalism a love story" it is really an eye opener as to how they get their prices so low. their employees are living on nothing, and encouraged to take government assistance instead of being offered a higher wage to pay for food and health insurance. sorry not trying to be all holier than thou! :) just giving you some info!

this is totally going to be me when we move back home. :( in GA, there isn't even a target in our town. you have to drive two towns and about 30-45 minutes to get to a target! but we do have the 3rd largest wal-mart ever/largest in the southeast just right down the road. woo!

haha. i'm kind of the same way. i love love going to target even if it is a 25-30 minute drive but walmart is litteraly right down the road and is sooo much cheaper. so if i need something, i head to walmart first :]

I have this debate with a friend sometimes about Target & Walmart. I'm one of those NO walmart for me shoppers haha. But where we live we have 4 targets all in the same distance from my house and 4 walmarts. It's insane but our Walmarts are a HOT mess. I can never find anything in that place. It's kinda weird to my as to why they cant get it together. I mean even when they open a new one it's just still a mess. But I do agree with you that alot of things are alot cheaper there!

I live in a small town and our wal-mart is notorious for clearing out merchandise fast! I get entire outfits for me children on clearance for $1! My kid will rock wal-mart proudly knowing I got them for a buck! Except this could be my downfall as well -- let's face it my kids favorite handy manny outfit is not what I want him parading around in public wearing. I make sure I tell people it was a $1 to justify my son wearing it.

Aside from the clothes I ended up with 3 bar stools for $10 each! they retail at $78! And other walmarts still have them in stock!

in San Diego i lived close only to walmarts and although I hated going I went very often. they are cheap but they also don't carry a lot of brands I was looking for which sucks. generic and meats though? dirt cheap. They finally opened a target but by then I was living on my own and poor and let's face it not ready to step out of my comfort zone. Then I moved to North Carolina. BAM target love. They have a super center, the starbcuks is there I can find everything in one store and this time walmart is really too ghetto and too far away to bother with. I love target. Now they opened a walmart super center to rival the target literally across the street. You know what? I still go to target and I don't know if it's NC or what but it's cheaper in some areas and the stress of not going to the walmart all the time (I still go I am not going to lie meat is CHEAP) I like organization and clean isle's and no long as lines because although they have 30 something registers only 3 are open (who does this?!) so I have full transitioned over to Target. I felt like a cheater in the beginning but I embraced it.

so what I am saying is, you go mama. whatever works and where ever you can save. I can tell you right now no matter how much I love target if it was far away i wouldn't waste the gas.

I love Target, hate hate hate Wal-Mart. Though my area is probably more 'ghetto'... seriously it's terrible in there. So even though it is cheaper, I get stressed every time I step foot in their parking lot. I do stop by there to get baby formula now though and cringe every time. Plus the lines are always outrageous and the shelves chaotic. So for the most part I stick to Target! Maybe if I lived in a little better area I would shop WalMart!

Haha you had me giggling with this one! ;) but it's so sad that you don't have a target nearby! Walmart is really great for name brand items and food, but target has the best clothes and shoes and everything.

I am totally laughing right now. What a cute post :) I totally agree with you in every way about Walmart being cheaper, but there is just something about that store that makes me feel dirty. But like you said, if you save money...it is totally worth it :)
And I have to tell you, you're house looks gorgeous!!!!! :) Love what you have shown! :)

The Renton Walmart is THE WORST!  We rarely go there, when we do it is only for certain items, like Christmas lights or when we need a box of disposable diapers.  Some places I;ve been, like Chelan and Jacksonville, Florida, have nice Walmarts though.  Maybe someday Renton will get it together, though it's doubtful.

You are so funny. I can't even imagine not having a Target close by. The reason I don't like Walmart, in my experience it was so unorganized, lines are crazy (and slow) and I watch a documentary on it that turned me away too.  I have heard that have some great prices.  Good luck mama!  :)

I feel the same way, girl.  Love Target, but Walmart is definitely cheaper! So I just tend to shop both. :)

I always find it funny how so many people who love Target act like people who shop at Walmart are just beneath their notice.  Like it's a place only poor people shop at, or people without class.  I LOVE Walmart.  I may not be the richest or the classiest person on the planet, but I certainly am NOT white trash or "ghetto".

That being said, there is a Walmart less than two miles away and I REFUSE to go to it because it truly is "ghetto".  Living in a ghetto neighborhood filled with poor immigrants and illegals tends to create a cause/effect scenario.  So I usually go to the Walmart that is four miles away, because it's in a good neighborhood and is super clean and organized and the people who work there are actually NICE and HELPFUL!  So I treat Walmart like I treat Denny's "Let's not go to this one, let's go to the good one."

I'm sorry you had to part ways with Target.  I love Target too, but I can rarely afford it, so I never go there.  I get sad when I look at things I like but know I'll never have!

This is hilarious, and I love it.  My cousins vote Wally World over Tarjay....I love both!  :)

i will always love target more than walmart but i am not ashamed to go there and shop one bit. where we are moving to also lacks a target. there is one a little less further than what the drive you may have sounds like, but none the less, it is not a drive i would call "a quick trip".  together we can discover some of walmarts hidden treasures! :)

Oh! i know one...Bodycology lotions...the bomb! way cheaper than BBW and just as good! love them. *grin*

To my surprise, the Walmart near my house is very organized and clean. I find everything I need and don't feel there are crazy lines whatsoever!

mandy at asortafairytale said...

Have you been to the Walmart in Covington?? It's actually clean and I've never had to wait in any lines. There aren't that many "ghetto" people either. Ha ha.

mandy at asortafairytale said...

I love Target, too!! Just isn't worth the 25-30 minute drive for me. I was super impressed when I walked into the Walmart by my house and it was clean, organized, not many "ghetto" shoppers. AND no lines... all 4 times I've gone - no lines. It's incredible.

Andrea said...

Bahaha!  I know the Walmart you are close to and that one is PRETTY bad... the savings must be significant!  I don't know if I could make that switch myself... :)

mandy at asortafairytale said...

I'm not ashamed either. At first I was weary, but I was so happy to find that the Target by my house is clean, organized and friendly. Who would have thought!

mandy at asortafairytale said...

Eeek, I'm sorry that your Walmart is so ghetto!! I was so nervous about that, too. But the one by my house is so nice. Clean and friendly. I didn't feel "trashy" at all. Lots of little nice families just like mine. But I am very sorry to not have a Target nearby. That sucks.

mandy at asortafairytale said...

Are you thinking of the one in Covington?? It's not bad at all (compared to Renton). It's actually pretty well organized and the staff is fairly helpful.

Jessica Diamond said...

We rarely shop at Target unless it's something we really want and can't find at Walmart. I honestly don't understand why people hate on Walmart so much. We have a ton around here and they are all nice and neat. The lines could stand to move a little faster but so could the lines at Target. People act like if shop at Walmart instead of Target then you are trashy and cheap. I don't get what the big deal is with Target. I really don't.

BeautyAndABaby said...

Haha! Love this, too funny! Although I like Target, I totally save more money at my local Walmart!

Erin Waldrop said...

Just be careful of the one in Renton :-) In the mean time I'll make s few trips to the Issy Target for you lol

Kiara Buechler said...

No, I haven't maybe we will have to have a Walmart date soon.

Brooke Hostetler said...

This is so funny you posted this because we moved out here on Sunday and found out there wasn't a Target around and I was so devastated. I mean Target is where I spend my days haha. Walmart it is for us too!

Alissa said...

Agreed. I still shop when I am in Issy, but Walmart is closer.

Olivia said...

Hooray for being sensible and practical!  I love Target for clothes and shoes and little extras but you can't beat Walmart's prices on food and household goods.  I mean, really, the savings are significant!

Amy Knobelsdorf said...

I cannot wait until Target comes to Canada, we have Zellers which is kind of the same, but the clothes just aren't as good. Walmart is all good and everything, but I feel so differently about wearing Walmart clothes vs. Target.

Robin Gonzales said...

just a thought.....not sure if you know but they almost always have free shipping if you spend $50....you can still be a target shopper =)

Angie said...

I sometimes wish there was a nice, clean, organized Wal Mart near us...but they all so messy and not convenient to get to...drives me crazy. So...a loyal Target shopper I remain : )

Erin said...

oh my ! i don't know what i would do without a target! i can't stand to even imagine!

Becky H said...

it's so true and unfortunate: walmart just has better prices than target. i LOVE target kids clothes and toys, though. i go there for those items. but, everything else, it's unfortunately walmart (unfortunate because i hate supporting the mammoth).

labarndt said...

LOL :)

I do enjoy good deals at Walmart...such as, knowing there are always $2 onesies there, and some Carter's sleepers are occasionally a mere $6. But I can't swallow the bitter pill of the ghettoness that is our Walmart, and so, I go there maybe twice a year.

No Target nearby sounds absolutely painful, I must admit.

Carly Saade said...

Haha! I love Walmart. The ones in the South are ah-mazing, but Target gets my heart at the end of the day. Maybe it's all the red.

Eve2570 said...

Love this, but Target still has that quality, funky onesies you will never find at walmart.
