Bennett's 2 year well child.

I'm a little late in posting this because, well, Bennett JUST had his 2 year appointment. He turned 2 in January but he absolutely HATES the doctor. Like, he flips the heck out when he steps foot in the doctors office so I kept putting it off. It's actually laughable how terrified he is to go to the doctor. And it's very sad at the same time.

Plus, I knew Daddy would be home on paternity leave when the baby was born, so I scheduled it when Daddy could take him :-)

Weight: 33lbs
Height: 3'1"

Overall, he's a healthy boy. He eats pretty well. He can be picky at times but that goes in phases. He's sleeping wonderfully. He goes down for bed between 7:30-8pm and wakes up between 5:30-6:30am every. single. day. Ha ha. He's always been an early riser and I've just accepted it. The good news is that he still takes a 2-3 hour nap every day so that helps!

The only "concern" at this point is that he still isn't talking a whole lot. Philip and I continue to sound things out for him. We are making him ask for things before we'll give it to him and we say everything we're doing as we're doing it. The good news is that he's trying to talk a lot more than he used to. You can tell that he's definitely struggling to say the right sounds, but I am proud of him for attempting to repeat the things you ask him to. He's making small improvements every week, so I'm satisfied. People just keep telling me not to worry about it, and that his speech will come in time. So that is what I'm doing. I am learning to just chill out a little bit and accept that fact that children develop at different rates.

I'm just grateful for a healthy child. I'm so blessed to have this little 2 y/o tornado in my life!!

he is precious! I couldn't help but notice his height- and I have always heard and kind of believed this old wives tale that if you take your childs height at 2 years old and double it, that is how tall they will be when they are full grown. So based off that Bennett will be really tall!! What a sweetie.

My little guy turned 2 in February, and the only concern the doctor had was his speech. I see 2 year olds that say every word you could think of and are starting to string words together! Not my kid. He can say maybe 30 or so words and sounds kind of garbled to most people. I can understand him, but not everyone can. I totally just have to think that with time it will come to him, and Bennett too!! They won't be going to kindergarten not talking :)

Thank you soo much for posting about Bennett's speech...my little guy is almost 20 months old and we don't have much speech either. As hard as it is to not worry we still do. Our Dr has even suggested getting him evaluated for speech if e is not talking by the time he is 2. Unfortunately my son is adopted so I only know a limited amount of info about his birth parents and if there were any speech issues as a child. Thanks for saying this out loud though! It def makes me feel as if I am not the only one in this boat!

My husband was almost 3 before he started really talking. He had two sisters and they used to joke that it was because he just didn't need to! I think every child is different, and it's a good thing that he is making improvements. He is such a cute little guy!

O.M.G I DREAD TAKING BRAEDEN TO THE DOCTOR. He flips out to the point of embarrassment. Getting him on the scale, nightmare. Oh man and if there is actually something wrong with him... cold, ears, throat... its over.

I feel your pain lady.

At Braeden's 3-year well check, they told me to go ahead and schedule him a dentist appointment. Ah, right. Cant wait for that one.

i read somewhere that boys take longer to talk so maybe that's it? or he's just a man of few words already. ;)

What a perfect little boy!! My son wasn't talking too much unit he was about 2 1/2. He's almost 3 now and he is a chatter box!!! Don't worry, he will all of a sudden start saying things and you will totally wonder where it all came from so fast!!

Holy moly, 33 lbs?  No wonder he feels so heavy when I pick him up, because he IS!   Smart move having Philip take him, you don't need that stress.

Landon absolutely hates going to the doctor. He was fine until he had his surgeries at 1 year. Now, he cries his eyes out if we even so much as put him on the scale. But, his 2 year check up was totally different than all of his others. He didn't cry a single time. He even had to get his finger pricked and didn't shed a tear. I have a feeling that Landon is going to take after me in the height department. He only weighed 25 pounds and was 31 inches tall. He's a little shorty like me, lol. Oh, and totally off topic but I love that shirt. Where is it from? :D

We hang out with 4 little boys often, three of them Bennett's age and one who turns two April 20th.  NONE of them talk all that much, or are just really starting to try and sound out words, but are still difficult to understand.  I'd say that is pretty much the norm from my experience.

And smart lady, waiting for daddy to do the dirty work :o).  Ryann is usually ok going to the doctors office, but once we get taken into an exam room she keeps trying to escape and saying she wants to go home and things.  It is a bit sad.

Thank you!! I always feel better when people have stories that relate to mine!

I actually read that, too!! I think it's pretty accurate!

What is it with these kids and the doctor?!? It's exhausting. LOL

Thank you for your comment, I am starting to realize that more & more kids aren't talking as early as I thought they would! I guess it's pretty normal??

Thanks for honestly posting about the talking thing! My little Isaac (he will be 2 on the 27th) isn't talking as much as the girls his age that we know and I am constantly being asked questions about it by our friends and family.  His doctor, however, does not seem worried AT ALL because he understands everything and can follow directions better than most children his age.  Children definitely develop at different paces and people need to stop worrying us mommas so much! :) PS: Bennett is oh so cute!

yes, every kid develops so differently!  i was so worried about parker being a late walker but who the heck cares now?  Bennett will figure it out & as long as he's talking by the time he's 12, i'm sure you're fine ;)

also, parker hangs out a lot with a little girl six months younger than him & she talks about the same amount as him & it kinda bothered me since he was so much older.  but i've realized that 1) girls seem to communicate much earlier than boys & 2) comparing kids gets you nowhere!

he's healthy & cute & is growing just fine... you're doing your job :)

So very cute!! He is a big boy and he will talk before you know it, then you will wonder why you worried at all.
