bedroom(s) makeover plans.

We have owned our house for 8 months and we've hardly done anything to "decorate". We painted when we initially moved in, but nothing special. And I've just now finally started getting more hung on the walls.

I'm not really very creative or crafty, so I think part of the reason our walls are still bare and the rooms are empty, is because I am so intimidated by trying to make decisions about what I want. It's all a little overwhelming for me.

But recently, I've gotten this itch to do some major makeovers in our house.  Things have been all kinds of crazy over here lately. Lots of ikea runs, craigslist purchases, paint color selecting, curtain buying, hand-me-downing going on.

Here's a little bit of what we've been working on.

BENNETT'S BIG BOY ROOM MAKEOVER.

When we first moved in, his room was lavender. Yah we painted over that immediately. We chose a pretty neutral color called "Pecan Sandy" (also the color of Easton's room). I'm totally happy with that color, but I want to spice up the walls a little bit so I've enlisted the help of Melissa, to come and help me achieve stripey perfection. Yep, we'll be painting horizontal stripes. I'm excited.

Also? An old school desk and classroom style roll-up map! The desk is being renovated as I type this, and the map is an awesome score from Melissa. (can she just re-do our entire house please!?)

Also had these bad boys printed and framed for Bennett's room. Or maybe Easton's. Haven't decided yet.

MASTER BEDROOM MAKEOVER

Oh man, if you had only SEEN the bedroom before we moved in. The walls were an awful dark sage green (I guess the color itself wasn't that bad, but in a bedroom... depressing). SO, I decided to paint it a greyish/blue color. After it was all said & done, it turned out more blue than it did grey. But that's a story for another post.  Also? Our bedroom furniture is dark brown. Don't like it. That's not to say that dark brown furniture isn't pretty.... but with the light blue walls... it doesn't mesh well together. So it's going to be ALL WHITE furniture up in our room. I really want my bedroom to feel light, airy and peaceful. I don't want ANY dark walls or furniture in my bedroom. So, we have slowly been switching out things in our bedroom. New bed and dresser, painting the nightstands, new curtains, AND a pretty awesome stencil painting project is brewing up in our heads.

before and after pics will come once re-do is finished!

↑↑↑ This is after we moved out the ugly brown bed and before we put together the white bed. On that back wall where the headboard is... we're planning something like this:

Currently, we're in the middle of spray painting the nightstands, so once those are done - we'll hang the curtains and then pick out the stencil we want on the wall.... then it's just the little things from there.

I can't wait until these bedrooms start to come together more. Once they do? It will be time to tackle the living room and kitchen. But I can't even think about that right now. One (or two) things at a time.

make sure with the horizontal stripes that your walls are level and even! I wanted to paint them in the nursery and ended up painting vertical stripes because our walls are so wonky. (i guess thats common in homes over 100 years old though).

It's hard to believe you've been there for eight months already! I love all your ideas, they are going to look great!

I can't WAIT until we move again and buy a house. We put it off because who REALLY wants to own a house in Alaska? Not us. Pinterest is an interior designers best friend and I'm excited to see what you guys end up with. I love the idea of white furniture. Definitely, maybe for our next house.

Fun stuff! I can't wait to see it all done. And I really REALLY want to re-do our master. It is so not my style at all anymore. Of course the hubby is totally fine with it, but...

Decorating is hard work. I think so much of it is just being confident in what you want to do - decisions, decisions! Can't wait to see what you come up with! ;)

What great ideas! I can't wait to see. Re-modeling and sprucing up is so much work & planning. There is always something to do ... we have made our way from the bedroom to my daughter's bedroom, to the dining room, to the deck ... to our kitchen and the living room .... and oh yeah now back to our bedroom - and so on and so on. It's never ending the stuff ya want to do! We are here 8 years and I still have a list a mile long! haha! I like the stripes idea for the walls of Bennett's room! Very cool.

You should just move to WA (more specifically, the Eastside of lake washington), and then we could help eachother put our pinterest ideas to work!

Mandy where and how can I get VERY affordable prints for my kids rooms? The ones you have are so cute is there somewhere I can do this myself?

I actually just search "free printables" online and then save it and have it printed through my lab!! The middle print in this picture is actually something I just made in photoshop! :)
