I have been preparing Bennett now for weeks, that he would be going to Mrs. Cloud's preschool class for a couple of hours, twice a week. Every time I brought it up to him, he would say "No, no school!" So I was kind of a nervous wreck when I was getting him ready to leave on Wednesday. What would happen at drop off?? Would he cry and cling on to me for dear life? Throw an epic tantrum in front of all his classmates, his teacher, and the other parents?
Well it just goes to show that kids, they continually surprise you. We pulled up to his Teacher's house (he's going to an in-home preschool), and he saw a few of his other classmates getting out and running to the door, I glanced back and he was kicking his feet in his booster seat and had an enormous smile on his face. Okay okay, so far so good... he's not whining yet. I got out of the car, unbuckled him, and he immediately jumped out and started running. I grabbed his hand and and said "Wait wait!! You need your dinosaur for sharing time"... I hardly had time to hand him his dinosaur before he bolted toward the door. And just like that, in a flash, he was gone and out of my sight. Without as much as a hug or kiss goodbye, or even a glance over his shoulder as he was racing into school.
I stood there for a minute in disbelief. What just happened? Did he just book it into school willingly and without a fight? Wow. I crept up to the door and peeked in, and there he was, already playing with his classmates, without any hesitation. I am SO proud of my little boy for being so brave, and eager to start this new adventure. I'm not sure he fully understands the idea of Preschool, but I'm hoping he really likes it. And hoping that he continues to go to school happily, and willingly. We'll see in the coming weeks ;)
Bennett still has a hard time with his speech & communication, as well as his comprehension. So I'm praying that preschool & the interaction with his peers will give him the push he needs to catch up! He doesn't listen well to me when I'm trying to teach him, but I think he just might pay more attention to his preschool teacher ;-)
