My "word" for 2014

Last year, I chose a "word" for twenty thirteen. It's kind of like choosing a theme for your life, something that means something to you. My word last year was Relax. I chose it because I felt like I was always in a hurry, and needing to control all the things. And honestly, those feelings were driving me nuts because much to my dismay, I just can't do that. But I actually remembered my "word" throughout the year and I think I did a decent job of remembering to Relax and just enjoy life. So... I'm going to give myself a little pat on the back for that one.

As I look toward this coming year... I think I've settled on a new word for Two Thousand Fourteen.

I was pondering over several words that I felt I needed to focus on. But I kept coming back to thinking about all of the things I want to improve on. There is always room to be progress, in every area of our lives.

I want to be a better Wife
... a better Mother
... a better friend
... a better photographer
... a better teacher
... a better eater
... a better exerciser
... a better listener
... a better writer
... a better believer
... a better human being.

Sounds actually kind of silly to say "I want to be a better human being." Because it's not like I'm a bad person. In fact, I'd like to think I'm a pretty good person. But... there are so many things, small decisions, things I say... that I later regret. You know what I mean??

I'm not saying it will be easy to improve on a lot of these things, cause I think that by 30 y/o, I'm kinda set in my ways. So I have a feeling it will be a challenge for me. But I just think that overall, it's sorta my responsibility to always grow & progress. To improve on myself... otherwise. What's the point?  I'm hoping to actually take this "word" seriously, and think back on it throughout this year, to really take strides on improving my shortcomings. Wish me luck :)

Do you have a Word for 2014?? Tell me what it is & why you chose it!

Improve is a good word, and it's something everyone can relate to/work on!

That is a great word! And it is probably my word every year, every single day. I strive my best to improve myself daily because like you said, we can all always grow.

I love it!! My word is "intentional"… I was in awe this past year of how quickly time passed and how much more thoughtful and purposeful I could be with my days, so being intentional in 2014 has been on my mind!!

My word is "goals" This year I'm really going to work on setting little goals each day, week, month to reach the big ones. So many times I have big goals and without small, specific goals to reach the big ones it's so much harder to get there.

I think it's a great word! We all have aspects about ourselves that we can improve upon! :)

I was always taught that if you don't learn anything or make any progress in anything over the course of an entire year...that's probably not the best use of a year! There's always room to learn and grow!

I like this and I think this is my goal for every year! haha I don't believe in the status quo. There is always room for growth and improvement.

On the mother, friend, listener, teacher, believer, business women side of all that - something that really helped me last year was reading/listening to the book Unglued by Lisa TerKeurst. You may not have heard of her, but she's a Christian Self-Help type author but it's not really a religious book, but a book about arming yourself so that you don't come unglued. My word of the year should be glued, if that's the opposite of unglued. I often regret things I do and say the moment I do them. I hate that about myself but am learning to embrace it and tame it in my wise old thirties. lol
