Friday Tidbits

Guys, how is it Friday? The weeks are getting away from me so quickly these days! One week ago we were leaving for Lake Chelan, and it feels like yesterday. I have so much catching up to do, with this blog, and life... just feel like I have no time to do it. So I think bullet points might be in order for today's post! ;)
  • Speaking of no time to catch up, that's mainly because my home office is upstairs and most of the time, the boys and I are downstairs. So honestly, I hardly sit at my computer at all during the day. Sometimes I sneak upstairs in the evenings when my Husband gets home, and if I'm lucky I get a good amount of editing done for my photo sessions, but the blog? It often gets neglected.

I've decided to start saving my pennies to get a laptop. I really think it will help me keep on top of things this Summer. Like when the kids are playing really nicely together, or running amuck in the backyard, I will be able to take my laptop out there and catch up on e-mails or finish one of the 25 drafts I have sitting in my blogger dashboard. My hope is that I can find 20 minutes here and there to put in some "work" hours during the day, so I don't have to take away from family time in the evening.

I've got my eye on one of these guys here. I already have an iMac desktop computer, which I love & adore. So I'm pretty certain I want to stick with another Mac. They're just quite a bit more expensive, so I wanna make sure I'm making a good decision. Anyone have MacBook Air?? I'm looking for advise & opinions before I make the purchase! :)
  • Temps have been in the 80's this past week! Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but I'd be lying if I said I loved that our house gets up to 85 degrees in the afternoon/evening. Most homes in Western Washington aren't built with air conditioning, mostly because we don't have a ton of days out of the year that we need it. But on the days it does get really warm outside, our houses all turn into sauna's. It's not super comfortable to try to sleep. Luckily the kids don't seem to mind the heat/humidity.

I do feel bad, though, when I go into check on them and they're all sweaty. Poor babes.
  • I'm thinking that starting next week, I'm going to get serious about my eating. I know I sound like a broken record, but I'm all about convenience. The problem is, when it comes to food, convenient usually means unhealthy. I'd go as far to say that eating healthy is one of the biggest challenges I've faced in my life. I just SUCK at meal planning, cooking and controlling my cravings. It's bad. So... wish me luck because I think I'm finally ready to crack the whip and hold myself accountable. But it's going to be HARD. Like... super hard.
Do you also struggle with your diet?? What advise do you have for me?!

It's so hard to envision not having AC. But I also live in South Texas. LOL. Hopefully you guys get a cool night soon! And I definitely recommend a macbook. I had my first one for 7 years, and it never crashed or froze or got a virus. I honestly think going mac is worth the investment!

We had our AC on this past weekend and now it's snowing and 60 in the house. I refuse to turn the heat on again, so sweatshirts and blankets it is! hah. And we have a macbook air - absolutely love it! My husband bought it for himself and I kind of claimed ownership over it because the iMac is in the basement and we are never down there during the day. I still have my first macbook from college...it's 10 years old and still works perfectly! Except it's too old to connect to the new wireless internet stuff. (so technical sounding, right?)

I can't IMAGINE the no AC thing...but living in VA, we definitely need it. It was close to 90 here this week! You know I'm here for you as a sounding board if you need some eating tips! I'd probably write WAY too long of a comment if I started about it... (perhaps I should write a post, huh?) but you can email me whenever you want!

Not having AC blows my little Midwest mind! As far as eating healthy, I've way improved breakfast and dinner, but my lunch/snacking habits are the WORST. I'm trying to treat it like baby steps, but dang, I need to get better!

Oh man, I live in California and we don't run the AC in our house because it's so expensive... it's been in the 90s and humid all week and it is so not amusing, so I feel your pain.

Also, I have a Macbook Air and I LOVE IT. I've had it for about two years and it's awesome! I love how light it is; it makes it very portable. Highly recommend! :) Although I would definitely say get one of the plastic covers for it that snaps on; keeps it clean and a lot cooler since the metal casing can get quite warm! I think that's probably the same with any macbook though.

I had a macbook air and hated it. There's no cd drive, so you need to purchase an external and it gets really. really hot. Really fast. Also my son fell on top of it and snapped it in half. So there's that too. haha. If you're looking for something really simple and cheap, I'd go with a chromebook. I used one for over a year and just did all my photo editing and hard drive necessary stuff on another computer.

one thing i will say is that we were THIISSSS close to buying a macbook air, but found a refurbished (with a warranty) macbook pro. We LOVE it. The main thing that led us to purchase a refurbished macbook is because of the dvd/cd option. The new MacBooks don't have a cd drive. But, when it comes to Apple products, you can't go wrong!

I feel so bad when I go get Q and she is covered in sweat, but she doesn't seem to care when she looks like a ragamuffin. We will definitely be pulling out the portable a/c when the next heat wave hits.

I can't imagine not having AC. Youch. Glad the kiddos don't seem to mind, though.

I've been a MacBook Pro girl since 2008. I actually sold my Pro in 2011, got an iMac, and sold the iMac for a newer Pro. (Oh, my.) Some days I miss my iMac, but I love being able to tote my laptop into the dining or family room to get things done during the day.

I am right there with you on needing a laptop and the eating habits. WHY does McDonalds have to be 2 minutes away?! My only advice is perhaps keep all the fixings for smoothies in the fridge for breakfast so you can throw it all in a blender. Prechop veggies in containers for snacking and eat with Philip.

It has been warm - almost to warm - especially for so early in the warm months (I am in Vancouver, WA btw :)) . Thankful we have at least a window AC up in our bedroom since its in the attic and would be WAY to hot to actually be comfortable if we didn't have it.

I make up a two week meal plan and do the grocery shopping, but I suck sometimes at actually get the stuff made - but I try!

I live on the West Side of the Sound (Bremerton) so I totally feel your no A/c (no need really except a few weeks each summer). Inside can be just down right miserable! But a sunny day in Western Washington is one of the best things in the whole world!

I have a MacBook Pro which I purchased in 2010 and I. LOVE. IT! I won't ever have a PC again! And because you have the iMac, I think you'll be really frustrated having to re-learn the whole mouse/operating system of a PC if you chose that route. I like my pro because it has an internal drive and cd/dvd drive. I know the Airs don't. But if you don't need the drive because you will be using your desktop for most actual computing things I say think about getting an iPad instead. I had one of those until I walked into a spiderweb last summer and accidentally threw it through the railings of a second story deck. (insert really sad background music here) I cried. The iPad is an AMAZING thing and its even easier to carry around than a laptop. But anything by apple is good and I love how they all interface so easily!

I have a Macbook Pro that I purchased in 2010 and absolutely love it! I only edit photos on my macbook. I love not being tied down to one place to edit. If we are on a road trip, I can easily throw my laptop in my bag and edit in the car, hotel, ect... My husband tried to convince me to get an iMac, but I just love not sitting at a desk when I edit - the couch is my office :-)

We've been trying so hard to eat better too. It's gotten harder with Dawson refusing to eat almost anything all of a sudden. I try to stick with easy. Like spaghetti, or an easy baked chicken and veggies. I need simple prep time! I've become a fan of my crock pot too... leave a pork shoulder in there all day and you can eat the shredded pork for all kinds of things for a few days. Good luck!

I looked at the Air but went with the Pro instead, wouldn't have been able to handle my photoshop.
