2014 Year In Review

Hey hey!!! New Years Eve is in 2 days, which is insane! We don't have a ton of plans. I think we are just going to get together with our good friends and their family and spend the evening making pizza,  eating cheesecake and wrangling the kids. I'm excited, though!!

I love writing these year-in-review posts, because it really allows me to look back on the year and relive some amazing (and no so amazing) moments. I'm so grateful for this blog, and the ability it gives to me to look back and grow and learn from previous experiences.

So here we go...

This year started off with me choosing my word for 2014, which was "Improve." I think I did a decent job of that, but looking back, I definitely could have done better. I shared about an experience I had at the grocery store talking to an old man, that was pretty eye opening. Bennett had his first ride on a school bus, and I also explained why we choose not to have Birthday parties for our boys (yet).  The month ended swiftly with Bennett's 4th Birthday outing to The Space Needle in downtown Seattle, and a post about Bennett's 4 Year well-child check and how we should learn not to underestimate out children.

February was a somewhat slow month, as it usually is. I started by sharing why I take selfies, it may not be what you expect to hear. Next up, I shared a fun & simple go-to beauty look! Later in the month, we got our first snow of the year, and then I talk about how exercising has become a habit for me.

March was a busy month for writing! The beginning of the month started off with a trip to the Urgent Care, yay! Not. ;-) I got my March Stitch Fix, which I adored, and then opened up about the struggle I have with Mom Guilt.  I then decided, that since I was being open & honest, I would confess an internal battle I was having about the possibility of baby #3. Continuing with the openness, I decided to tell you all the truth about my marriage,  and confess some of the weird & quirky things you may not know about me. Towards the end of the month, I also experienced a very important "first" with my oldest boy, which completely melted my heart, shared my favorite Rosemary Seasalt Dinner Roll Recipe, and then shared the reasons why I love photography so much! And then on March 30th, Easton turned TWO Years Old!

Rolling on into April, I explained my version of what a Supermom really is. It started to feel like Springtime around the PNW, so we took a few outings to Kelsey Creek Farm and Discovery Park.  Easton got his first big boy hair cut, be still my heart!, I got my April Stitch Fix, and then I shared with you where I sit down to write, work and find inspiration!

Welcome May!! It's one of my favorite months! May started off with record breaking temperatures in the 80's, so we had our very first beach day of the year! We took a little Spring vacation to Lake Chelan with our best friends and their kids, which was an absolute blast! Can't wait to do it again next year! Toward the end of the month, I got myself a new camera, the Canon 6D, I can't recommend it enough. Then I talked a little bit about how ordinary my life is, but that I wouldn't change it for anything!

Here we are, half way through 2014 already! I wrote an emotional post all about what being a Boy Mom means to me. Next, I shared a few thoughts on what it's like being a blogger, shared about how I am I starting to realize I need to change my perspective about my body, rather than just my body itself. And then whoops, I rookie parenting mistake blog post. Toward the end of June, I started realizing my youngest, sweet little 2 Year Old was turning into a Sassafras, and then we officially broke in the Summer with some backyard sprinkler fun!

It's July and Summer is here for good! Or at least a few months ;-) Independence Day came and went pretty quickly, but we had a great time celebrating with friends and family. Right after, that Philip and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary and I shared some things I've learned about marriage thus far. I received my July Stitch Fix, which is always a happy day! Also this month, I got a laptop, which proved to make my blog/work life ridiculously easier. Next we took our yearly trip to Idaho to visit my Husband's side of the family, and then finally, I expressed some feelings I've been having about the need to find where we really belong as a family.

Which brings us to August, where the month starts off with a sweet post about "Favorite Friends",  then I went on to share a few more weird & quirky things about me (part 2).  Mid-month I made a decision that I from there on out, I would be owning my identity, outside of being a Mother, and then I shared an update on Bennett's speech/developmental delays.  Toward the end of August, we took a couple little trips! The first was with the kiddos to Ocean Shores & Long Beach, WA.  And then the last one was our much needed adults only trip to Seaside & Portland, OR. And then, of course, I got my August Stitch Fix, and it was a goodie!!

September is here, and my oldest boy went off to his first day of Pre-K! September was a good month for fitness for me, so I wrote a post on 5 Ways To Get The Most Out Of Your Workouts. Things got a little raw, when I started talking about my choice to be a Mother, and all that goes into it. The third week in September, I went to Type-A Conference, and wrote up a little recap post about my experience there. Lastly that month, I wrote a litter to Easton, explaining to him why the "big boy bed" can wait a little bit longer.

Happy October!! One of my first posts of the month was a sweet & lighthearted post about how my 4 y/o gave me a compliment that made me rethink some of my actions as a parent and a woman. After this, I kinda got on my step stool and talked all about how even through the frustrating times with my kids, I still find joy in those moments. Also, we we were friends in 'real life', here are some things you should know about me. Quick, here's my October Stitch Fix. And then, toward the end of the month, we took a trip to California to visit family, the boys got to spend Halloween with their cousins!

We also started off November in California as well. We spend a day at Universal Studios, as well as a day at Disneyland, woo hoo!!! I learned quite a few little tips & tricks while traveling with my 2 & 4 Year Old's, and I shared those bits of wisdom with you right here.  After we got home, I wrote a post about the relationship between my boys, and how they have become each other's Safe Haven's. And then I snuck in a boys fashion post that month as well! :)

We actually spent the weekend after Thanksgiving at my Mom's new beach place, so I recapped that little trip the beginning of December! I received my Stitch Fix at the beginning of the month and ended up only keeping one thing this time! Next I discussed the importance of choosing the right athletic shoes,  then I took my kids to see Santa, and our experience was not what I expected! Later in December, I finally finished a dresser renovation I started back in October, and then IT WAS CHRISTMAS!!!

And that wraps up 2014 in a super quick nutshell! Guys, I'm really excited to see what 2015 has in store for us!! I have a feeling it will be a good year! :)
