Fashion post - Stepping outside my comfort zone

You guys, it's almost Christmas!! Are you all ready? It's been strangely warm around the PNW lately. Like, I've been able to leave the house during the days without a jacket, and have been just fine. I kinda like it!

Today I'm popping in to show you a new outfit I got recently. I tend to get really comfortable in a certain style of clothing, as do most people, I'm guessing! I am usually a leggings & tunic type of girl. Sometimes I will throw on a pair of jeans, and a sweater. But mostly, I just wear what's comfortable.

Lately, though, I've been trying to step outside my comfort zone a little and buy pieces that are still comfortable, but different & unique to the other things I have in my closet.

The first time I ever even thought twice about this style of pant, was when I was at Type-A Conference this past September. I saw several ladies wearing them, and as I was sitting there in my jeans and the button was digging into my belly -- I kept thinking how fashionable these pants looked, but also, how comfortable they would be to wear! Especially for long periods of time. But really, I'm kind of curvier girl, and I wasn't sure that I could pull them off.

But back in October, I got gutsy and tried on a few pairs. I posted a picture on Instagram of myself in a dressing room, trying on this pair of pants. I got an overwhelming response from my friends to BUY THEM! And so, I did. Thanks guys!

Also, don't make fun of me for wearing sunglasses. Although, it's not sunny, it was bright outside from the white overcast clouds, so I was super squinty if I didn't have these on. ;-)

Black Top: Target
Scarf: gifted to me
Pants: Fred Meyer

If I'm being totally honest, I've only worn them once since I got them. I'm still not really that confident with how they look on me. I still question whether or not I should be wearing a patterned-style pant. But there's no denying that they are definitely easy to wear, I don't feel confined or restricted when I'm wearing them.

Another huge battle I have, is shoes. I feel a bit like a fish out of water when I'm trying to pair shoes with outfits. The advise I got from people about shoes on this outfit, was to get a pair of black flats, so, I did. And I think they go really well with the outfit! They are super versatile and very comfortable to walk in! And the best part, is that they don't hurt my heels like a lot of other flats I have.

*I was provided this pair of shoes in exchange for my review, but all opinions are my own.

I feel like flats are my go-to shoes these days, because running around after kids... who has time for heels?!

Do you tend to get stuck in your comfort zone when it comes to fashion? How often do you try different styles?

You pull those off so well! You look so amazing and chic. I've thought about buying some as well, they look so comfy! But I'm curvy and short, and am worried I'll look, well, silly :) Maybe I'll have to try some on!

I love the outfit. You look great in it! The really love the scarf with the black top. When it comes to fashion, I probably don't change my style much. I may get a few trendy pieces here and there but essentially, my clothes don't vary too much.

I'm with you though, I don't often branch out of my comfort zone with clothing. I'm a jeans girl and have been just trying to do the leggings and tunic thing, but I feel weird... ha ha. This outfit looks good on you!

Unfortunately yes! As much as I appreciate fashion and seeing the new trends, I not only get stuck in the same outfits, but the same colors too! My entire walk in closet is black, dark browns, and pastel pinks. The only other color you will find is beige. From lounge ware to dress wear - I need some help stepping out of my comfort zone too! lol

You look great! I tend to get stuck in my comfort zone when it comes to clothes, too. I'm definitely a jeans or leggings girls. And of course, my favorite yoga pants.

I still can't decide what I think of these pants. They look so good on some people (like you!) but sometimes they just look like PJ's. Maybe I just need to try on a pair someday!

I love those pants! I have a pair of turquoise and white Aztec print summer pants that I wore OUT this past summer and early fall. I work from home, my husband thinks I'm pretty no matter what, and my toddler certainly doesn't care, so I tend to wear what I want, even if I look a little wacky. I think you look awesome!

I definitely get stuck in my comfort zone. As a somewhat larger, curvy girl I get scared to step out of the box a little. These look great on you though so yay for trying them!

I love flats and I'm so glad they make cute stylish ones. I could never wear heels at work. I run around a hospital all day. I think your whole outfit is very cute.

I think you look great in those pants - I love how soft they look, and the prints are beautiful! I am a comfort over style girl, so I applaud the step you've taken!

Patterned pants are amazing, as are pants with that fabric/silhouette. I opt for them whenever I can, and high-end designers like Philip Lim have embraced them as collection staples. Work it, girl!
